It’s Like a Free-For-All in the Waiting Rooms

I was in a typical waiting room last week, thinking about what happens when we don't rush past the boredom of waiting. Our lives are stuffed to the brim with stimulation, and those empty stretches are where the magic lives: the unexpected thoughts, the little revelations, the mental detours that lead somewhere interesting. While I was letting the quiet speak, it had plenty to say.

Suddenly, it felt like a free-for-all. All this real estate of space that seemed to be ignored by the other waiting visitors around me! My antenna was wide open, and I was drinking it all in like it was all mine since no one else seemed to want it. There is so much goodness in those empty spaces, yet we constantly try to fill them or cover them up like a band-aid over a cut. Even though it's not a bad discomfort that needs to heal, it is something there for us to grow from. It is there waiting for us all the time! Free for the taking, like an infinite museum inside ourselves where we can walk through the quiet, open space. Much like looking at art, we wander through these inner rooms and find ourselves pulled in by what resonates - a story, a memory, a feeling, happening again and again. Open 24/7!

This image shows a framed charcoal drawing I created over 20 years ago. It was recently uncovered while archiving all my digital files, and is in the collection of my dear friend and established Longmont, Colorado artist, Angela Beloian. Angela’s works are luminous, as is her soul! Click HERE if you would like to wander through her website.

Also, that quote below those feet, "I keep my eye on the moon and my feet muddy," came from a combination of Theodore Roosevelt and another friend, David Chastain, located in Western Oregon, who is also an artist and website builder (David’s website here). I believe David wrote a similar quote on one of his artworks, and I stole it. Please, David, don't get mad if you read this.
